Pros

Reputation of Genentech products is strong

Cons

Roche is slowly chipping away at Genentech culture and benefits. Less paid Holidays, Dental insurance benefits reduced, Healthcare costs increased and complex to manage, no incentives for legacy and long term employees, Top down management. Micromanagement to the point where entire staff is paralyzed. Telecommute policy not equal or consistent across the company.

We appreciate you sharing your review and we’d like to thank you for your 10+ years at Genentech. Our effort to address unmet medical needs would not be possible without the work our employees do every day. With that said, we strive to create an environment where all of our people can do their best work. Some ways we do this include our competitive benefits packages that are examined across the marketplace and our working flexibly mindset. We believe employees should work in the places where they can succeed; thus we encourage you to have an open dialogue with your department if you seek different working flexibility guidelines, as well as to speak up about how you perform best. Thanks again for your review!

Come into work miserable after your are tested poorly. It is very stressful, psychologically damaging to work in such a place. Very racist behaviors when being promoted, Qui Pro Quo is encouraged in some situations.

Great benefits, poor management and processes

Pros

If your looking for great benefits it has some of the best

Cons

Management is weak, processes are outdated and most of the management has been in place for some time and they do not want to change. Internal employee survey shows great place to work for benefits but nothing more. About 53% of employees are afraid to speak up for fear of management. HR says there is a progressive discipline process but upper management will just fire someone because they speak up and want change. Be careful, there are to many start up companies out there offering more. Now that Roche has there hands on Genentech it will never be the same. Financial cuts are everywhere.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your review. We believe in our employees and strive to create an environment in which they can excel. Moreover, we recognize that managers have a large influence on our employees’ experiences. This is one reason we are so committed to learning and development as part of our core. We are constantly working to improve our processes and practices. We recognize that as a larger company, some voices may feel passed over. However, all of our voices are important and contribute to our continued mission of helping patients. One way we are working to promote speak up is through a new global check-in initiative to increase communication, transparency, and trust between managers and direct reports. We believe that anyone can lead from any seat and we hope all of our workforce feels empowered to do so. Thank you for sharing your review and for the time you have dedicated to Genentech.
