Company in Crisis

Pros

-benefits -pay -focus on patients -quality of medicine

Cons

-culture is on life support and has plummeted dramatically since 2019 transformation -most employees either currently looking to leave or cannot leave because of unique personal circumstances or they don't believe they can get equal pay from another company. Many have left taking paycuts being desperate leave the negative culture -no trust in management as evidenced by the 2023 company survey and little belief that company will address company issues -little confidence in senior and senior executive management -little recognition or appreciation demonstrated -not a speak up culture- retaliation or termination has ensued -revolving door of CEOs and other executive leadership -Stock went from 400 to 240 in a little over a year and a half -continued failed drugs in pipeline and later stage pipeline -field sales team compensated not on sales but on story-telling of their "impact" and MBOs which is demotivating and unpopular -flat organization with little career opportunity -extraordinary amount of work...Pay is great but considering the scope of responsibilities employees are underpaid -meeting after meeting after meeting which leaves notime to get criticially important work done

Pros

Used to be a lot, now not so much - still very good benefits and a six week paid time off sabbatical after working for six years

Cons

1. ROCHE (FHLR) - 100% own Genentech since 2009, at first they left us pretty much alone - NOW - completely have taken over - more and more senior roles moved to the HQ at Basel. 2. ROCHE - it's now all about the bottom line to the accountants in Finance - more and more jobs at lower levels being 'exported' to cheaper locations like Canada (Mississauga), Costa Rica, Hungary (Budapest). It's cheaper to hire people there. ENTIRE functions, like Vendor Finance and Procurement have been or are in the process of being moved away from the Genentech South San Francisco campus 3. Almost impossible to get promoted - unless you know the right contacts - it's not at all about merit and HR don't want to promote anyone as it means paying more salary to that person

Pros

The company has competitive pay, great benefits, management say the right things, and I believe they want to do the right things.

Cons

Management plays favorites with preferred employees in pay and promotion that goes beyond difference is demonstrated skills and tangible contributions. In Finance organization, excessive importance placed on commodity skills of "business partnering." Result is that core technical Finance and Accounting skills are not cultivated, support groups with these skills are small, and all technical work is channeled to these small groups as few people can or want to do it. Sr. management is more focused on their own self promotion than on developing their organizations.
