Pros

Incentives to stay with the company, mission

Cons

My experience with the Genentech Patient Foundation was that if you don't mirror management you'll never have the chance to develop. The culture created in Portland is toxic and forces employees to assimilate into a culture that celebrates shining the spotlight on the mistakes of your peers rather than talking to them directly. They're big on diversity initiatives but they don't have a diversity problem, they have a development problem. Leadership does not reflect their frontline staff in terms of diversity and its not just about race. I noticed that if you're different than them, you basically don't fit in and will never fit in. They often cherry-pick who to micromanage and allow others to behave in ways that are offensive and not professional (from my experience white peers). Don't waste your time here, the pay and benefits are not worth being lead by management that clearly needs sensitivity training and who should be more accountable and micromanaged as they do to their staff. They often cover each other's backs when they slip and blame the employee. Overall a waste of time in terms of career development. You won't learn anything that will make you marketable for other roles besides having the name of the company on your resume.

Pros

Compensation, 401K matching, free dress, insurance (medical, dental, vision) are excellent and cannot be compared to any other company. LOTS of free food floating around. Many opportunities to movement around the company (but lots of competition). Concerts, free stuff and giveaways. Promotes healthy living. Free shuttles/buses around different cities. Discounted: pet care, pet insurance, child care onsite, food to close by restaurants. There are many different perks-beds in some offices, pods, sit to stand desks, ergonomic everything, free gym onsite (pay for trainers), free gym classes, lots of different volunteer opportunities. Company donates TONS of money to research and financial institutions to help pay for some of the drugs the company makes. There are just so many pros to this company, it's hard to list. The biggest thing is not to stay in one place in this company, otherwise, you feel stuck and will want to leave. It's fairly difficult coming in as a full time employee.

Cons

Access Solutions: overworked, repetitive day to day work, favoritism, politics, no chance in getting hired if you came on as a contractor, false hope from the supervisors and above. Told to speak freely, but get reprimanded when you do.

Pros

Some organizations are ok, good benefits

Cons

Some organizations are extremely political, older people bully newer employees to force them to accept their methods, they throw stone and constantly put emotional pressure on more technically advanced folks with newer ideas. Too many damn meetings, and no structure on the right path. Forcing RTO on technical IT people that don't need to meet in person.
