Pros

Work-life balance is good

Cons

MA&S is a horrible place. Your career development does not matter. Your manager only cares about things he/she wants you to do. Communication is not transparent

Pros

Benefits have always been a plus. A lot of autonomy. Ethical compared to other companies in this industry. Stock is worth something now after 3 years.

Cons

There has been a major reorganization and shift in how marketing operates on 90 day cycles and sprints. There is no longer a career trajectory as the reorg is a steep pyramid now. We are trending a jack of all trades, master of none approach, slowing everything down with cross training (we had more specialists in the way we had been organized, those who chose that area due to interest). We seek to be a marketing company, yet hire people who have no experience in it. If it’s not bad enough investing limited time helping our own to market to other customers now, we must deal with newbies who are formerly our functional partners who applied into marketing. One last note is that I have seen or heard of unethical behavior by multiple management. It is jarring that these are lawsuit worthy. HR will likely respond to this note with “please feel empowered to call the ethics hotline”. Employees are cognizant that Genentech will never rid themselves of bad management.
