Pros

- Met some great, creative, hard-working people near the start of my tenure - Dog friendly - End of list

Cons

Every smart employee I know at GA is actively looking for a way out. The way this place is run is truly a joke: - Lifers who have been around from the start are rewarded even when their performance/contribution are near non-existent. Highly suspect some are still on payroll despite not playing a part in everyday operations whatsoever. - Senior management is one big echo chamber that doesn't listen to the concerns of those they manage (AKA the ones doing the hard work). - "HR" doesn't listen to employee concerns no matter how many times they hear the same complaint. GA's HR policy is "don't fix it if it doesn't get in the way of profit" — review cycles are sort of bogus and don't tie directly to promotions/raises. - In the quest to make money no matter what, GA does business with orgs/countries that have questionable morals. - No one respects the CEO; the CEO doesn't respect his employees. - During my time, seemed as though every month was another perk cut.

Disorganized and Poor Communication

Pros

Truly nice people, smart, committed to a worthwhile mission. Some flexibility, depends department to department, location to location. A great deal of input into how things run at a local level. The courses and course structure vary by location but in general are solid.

Cons

Very poorly organized, reinventing the wheel, locations and departments completely out of sync. so when people come in with terrific ideas and the ability to execute them in any meaningful or lasting way is almost nil. Higher execs are disconnected from the organization, as are locations and departments from each other. High turnover of staff. The business model claims instructors as the product but is set up for turning over instructors as often as possible. While this keeps the course fresh, it contradicts the lip service paid to staff being the greatest asset. In other departments as well as instructional staff the pay is low and the benefits are not great. Commitment to a mission, as worthy as it may be, can only hold people for so long. Execs don’t show any real interest in doing anything about that. This business model works fine for what it was intended, make lots and lots of money. Now that they’ve made enough money to be bought, it’ll be interesting to see if things change and how.

Great team, Terrible Leadership

Pros

GA hires very well - not only will you feel challenged by your colleagues to learn and continue to get better, but the majority of them will be people you actually want to be around both at work and at happy hour. The brand is well respected in the tech community, so you'll certainly have a sense of pride while you're there, and it doesn't hurt when you're looking for a future gig. Despite ups & downs, the experience can be incredibly valuable to your professional development. You're constantly solving problems at a insane rate, and while that can be stressful, you'll be better for it in the long run.

Cons

I've never been at a company where senior leadership is more out of touch from their employees, top to bottom. They're often smug and aren't up front about their true intentions. And their reputation isn't just internal... just ask what others in the tech community think about certain leaders at GA. Poor culture = Revolving door of talent / toxic atmosphere. Because GA's leadership being disconnected from their business, there's no core culture that drive everyone at the company. Employees spend a lot of time griping, and ultimately look to move on within a year or two. After a few months being there, you can really start to feel this all around you.
