Engineer Review after 1.5 Years
Pros
- Interesting product - Some work has meaning - Overall importance to the nation's defense - New London facility is nice - Lots of younger generation - Seeing submarines coming back or leaving - Looks great on a resume
Cons
- Pay raise is mediocre, the average is 2.5-3%, I was told I am above average with a mere 0.2%. I expected to be compensated more due to my devotion for both quality and timeliness - Work culture is awful, constantly overworked, stressed, and fear management for not meeting numbers so they can get their monthly incentive checks - Insanely hard to get fired, there are people within my own department who constantly miss deadlines, produce terrible work, and overall terrible to work with yet they face no repercussions. If it was anyone else we'd be crucified. - Not much diversity for the older generation, lots of racist, bigoted, and close-minded white men who do nothing but talk about how they hate the younger generation or yell at you for not doing something their way - Work is incredibly easy, the most difficult part about the job is multitasking and time management, if you have a brain you'll do fine - Attrition rate is very high - Education assistance or professional development is non-existent or mediocre at best - They don't season the food in the cafeteria, and its something as simple as salt - Very "cliquey" its like highschool all over again - Parking is atrocious, get here by 6-6:30AM to get a spot - Expected hours is 45+, but you only get paid for 40. And oh yeah since you get paid for each full HOUR after 45, you really need to do 46 to get paid 1 hour of OT - Working with the Design groups can be incredibly frustrating due to the lack of quality Design produces. I often have to review things 4-5 times before it is satisfactory - No accountability, everyone points fingers to push the blame on someone else If you're new here or planning on working here, get a few years and leave. Its not worth the time and bs you have to go through
