You gain DOD Contractor experience, you get a DOD clearance

Cons

Electric Boats attrition rate is skyrocketing, you will start with little to no experience in this field and they will give you work 2 salary grades above what you were placed at, and you will not be compensated now or later for your efforts. They also won’t show you how to do the work, you will just have to sink or swim. Their competitors pay ridiculously better.

Pros

It's a job. They will hire you within the Shipyard. They are desperate for workers. Salaried office jobs are like nirvana though.

Cons

Electric Boat (EB) will put you where they want you. They don't care about you, your safety, or anything else. All what they care about is getting these submarines built. If that means losing an arm to get your job done, so be it. They won't lose any sleep over it. The Union wants to keep you, therefore, there is no opportunity for growth. Management is the worst. They can't manage anything. It is a very toxic work environment. Stay away. It is not worth the physical or mental trauma, unless you are in a salary position.

Not often you can say you get to work on nuclear submarines, people are usually helpful, 401K match is nice

Cons

Salary raises are a joke, promotions only happen in November so if you slip a bit, have to wait a whole year just to have a chance, bonuses are non-existent after taxes, have to use own time off for holiday shutdown without any choice
