Pros

Professional co-workers committed to do a great job with little supervision. Challenging work assignments. Fitness center and employee discounts.

Cons

Poor management, unethical directions and outright fraud. Clueless H.R. department unresponsive to employee concerns. Layoffs of senior team members due to pay grades, no mentoring. Incompetent managers.

Pros

There is nothing good to say about this place

Cons

Last year they hired people on the upon the guise of work/life balance. This year it was all taken away. They use very liberally the word collaboration which is synonymous with micromanagement and mistrust. They don't trust the employees and no longer allow people to work from home even though it was effectively done. Classic bait and switch tactic. People are friendly initially, then very toxic. You get very little training or work direction but are expected to know what others have known for 20 years despite lack of proper training because they "are too busy" to properly train you. Every minute of your day has to be documented any event that you can not charge to you are expected to use "your own time" to attend. It's clear that the company does not trust the employees. Smart companies have used work from home to save money. GD is wasteful and instead wants to put every person in the office or lease space in other locations so that you can be watched and micromanaged like a child. Most of the managers have poor people/leadership skills and have no business being people leaders. Engineering is trying to unionize and it desperately needs to happen. This place is a joke and they wonder why the new people leave. You can't hire people promoting a work/life balance then take it away just because you feel like it and expect people to stay. Antiquated mentality and very poorly run company. The tools and software needed for our jobs is also very antiquated. Constant use of outdated software causes the work to take much longer to complete and additional headcount that wouldn't be needed. Newly added lunch time meetings with lunch provided. Sorry GD nobody wants to meet at lunch and no amount of free food makes up for you taking away someone's lunch time.

Pros

Three day weekends every other week

Cons

Years of mismanagement have made the GDLS software department a nightmare to work for. Pay starts low, they rarely negotiate and are very reluctant to give raises. Almost no coherent thought has been put into good software development environments or practices. High turnover in the last few years has crippled the software dept and management is unwilling to allocate resources to fixing the problems.
