      Not the company it used to be

      Pros

      The only pro left at GD is the compensation. They pay very well compared to the competition. It used to be a great place to work almost like a second family, no more.

      Cons

      Totally lost its direction. No investment in the future despite what they say. Laid off hundreds and hundreds only for the sake of making EBIT to target. Now they are forcing out the senior managers that built the business. This company used to be a great place to work; now it is a sweat shop. Benefits are cut every year; but they still pay well. Morale is terrible and there in no confidence in the management.

      Lack of Recognition, Disregard for Desired Type of Work, No Raises

      Pros

      Their base pay is good. You will work with really sharp, highly-competwnt people. Occassionally pick up new skills. Well-supported IT infrastructure.

      Cons

      Bleak future. Work is rarely interesting. Innovation is often verboten since "we can't afford the time / money." "Sacrifice the month to save the week" mentality. No recognotion for consistently working a very productive 60 - 70 hour week. Certainly no pay praise, but a sincere "thank you" from middle management or higher would be nice. No training. Finally, they pay lip service to putting people in positions that entail the type od work they want to do, but I have yet to see it for myself after several years.

      Worst place ever for engineers

      Pros

      The paycheck makes it into the bank. Work life balance is excellent since producing anything is largely irrelevant.

      Cons

      - Managers are mostly justifying their existence. Possibly the worst management ever. - Reorg of the month provides no accountability. - IT is not connected to the local organization, consequently they have no commitment to support anything that allows you to produce product.
