Pros

A handful of extremely talented engineers.

Cons

I try not to express a contrary opinion or any frustration for fear of being labeled as "uncooperative" and getting my name put onto the top of the layoff list. However it's somehow okay for managers to bully and verbally abuse people in order to get what they want. In fact, those that do get promoted.

Pros

Location, no commute traffic, flexible hours. Pittsfield is a nice place to live, if you don't like big cities. Co-workers are very friendly and easy to work with. Good management for what power they have.

Cons

General: The company is not investing in its infrastructure or its employees. The buildings are rented and have not been updated or well maintained. Technically the work environment is lagging behind the rest of the technology sector. Its clear across the board nothing new is really being done, everything is just maintaining things that have already been completed. This goes for everything to the government contracts and work to the building itself. The atmosphere is very uninspiring and dull. Work: The work is not what I would expect as a software engineer, there is little programming and it certainly isn't challenging. Most of your time as a software engineer will actually be on various levels of documentation. I feel my skills are fading and not being put to use. Future: Its possible to stay at GDMS forever, although there seems little room for advancement. Its clear that there are less than generous raises or promotions. It seems much easier to apply to a new job, which might take 2 months, rather than to try to get a raise or move around within the company which could take a year. If there was anything exciting to work on, which there is not.

It's Got Depressing

Pros

Nice facilities Slightly better than average benefits Some interesting projects to work on if you're connected to the right people

Cons

A stunning lack of women in Sr. Management positions, despite the fact that the CEO is female. Morale was absolutely in the dumps. Shortsighted, clueless management, advancement seems to be based on who you know. There is no future for anyone outside the old boy's club. No pay raises, benefits being cut every year, and management justifies these cutbacks by citing surveys that show they are "competitive" with their DoD contracting counterparts. They only strive to be average.
