Toxic Work Environment

Pros

Genesis Reference Laboratories can only teach you what type of environment you do not want to work in and what type of people you do not want to work for.

Cons

This is hands down one of the most toxic workplaces I have ever experienced. Since CEO Nicole Moberg joined, the culture has deteriorated rapidly into a full blown favoritism factory where merit, hard work, and basic professionalism mean nothing. Nicole has cultivated an environment of extreme favoritism and cliques. Promotions, better shifts, raises, and even basic recognition go almost exclusively to her inner circle, friends, and family members, many of whom are objectively terrible employees and even worse people. You can be the most reliable, high performing person in your department and still get passed over repeatedly while unqualified favorites get fast tracked and protected no matter how poorly they perform or how they treat others. Owners Phil and Britt are fully complicit and have made it clear through their actions that loyalty to “their people” supersedes everything else. They continue to show unwavering support for underperforming, disrespectful, and even outright toxic staff simply because of personal relationships. Good employees who actually care about doing quality work, meeting deadlines, and maintaining standards are ignored, undervalued, and often actively undermined. There is zero emphasis on rewarding performance or developing talent, only on protecting the friends and family network. The toxicity runs deep: • Constant gossip, backstabbing, and exclusionary cliques. • Management that plays favorites openly and punishes anyone who speaks up. • No transparency in decision making or promotions. • High turnover among competent staff while the worst people stay forever. • A pervasive sense that hard work is pointless because the game is rigged. • Leadership that prioritizes loyalty to individuals over the success of the company or its patients. It feels impossible to advance or even feel valued unless you’re part of the “in” group. Burnout is rampant, morale is in the toilet, and the few strong employees left are actively looking for the exit. If you’re not connected to the right people, don’t bother, your contributions will be overlooked while the untouchable favorites coast.

Pros

I have worked for Genesis for close to 3 years. The company has a great culture and the leadership team is always willing to support members in the field. They also provide competitive pay and work life balance.

Cons

I don’t have any negatives to report.

Hard lesson learned

Pros

Nice coworkers, decent pay, flexible schedule

Cons

Management has no clue what’s going on, you are left wondering if the business will even be there tomorrow. They have very sketchy dealings and many things I saw were not even legal in terms of laboratory practice.
