Good company, less than optimal leadership
Pros
Fun, intelligent, and incredibly helpful workforce. If you are looking to work side-by-side with some great folks, Genesys is definitely a good choice. The work is always interesting and they are eager to stay up to date with the latest industry standards and technologies. They pay fairly too and have great benefits.
Cons
Senior leadership recently did something that was unsettling, and they blamed it on the "bad economy". For those of us who don't put our head in the sand when it comes to politics and the world economy, we all knew that the economy was not going to be in good shape a few years back when they starting to do things like shutting down the Keystone XL pipeline, dishing out $1400 checks to people who didn't work, marking certain businesses as "essential" and leaving others to close their doors, student loan forgiveness, and supporting Ukraine by throwing billions of dollars in their direction (just to name a few). When making the announcement, the CEO had the audacity to reference the World Economic Forum. The WEF that wants you to eat bugs, own nothing and be happy about it (while they are simultaneously the ones who are allowed to own things), and understand that THEY are the ones who own the science and your science is not really science. Yeah, that WEF. It was completely out of touch and completely reliant on the idea that the individual contributors of the company don't know anything about what happens in the world. Definitely an obtuse move. The bottom line is that proper prior preparation prevents poor performance. Leadership does not seem to follow this mantra. During the BLM riots on 2022, they decided to implement a DEI team where one did not exist previously. When I was first hired, I had to go through video training to get acclimated with the company. Genesys, like many other companies, outsourced these videos to a company that specialized in this sort of thing (think general workplace policies that most companies adhere to). The strange thing about this experience is that when the time came to talk about diversity and inclusion, they opted to create their own segment to talk about how Genesys does not fall in line with this mindset. Instead, their belief (and I am paraphrasing, of course) was that everyone should be treated fairly and equally, no matter what, period. The only thing that matters is merit. Since the new CEO came on board, that changed. But only when cities were burning down and store fronts were getting smashed in. Now there is a webpage that has groups separated by identity. Again, another obtuse move since this is inherently devisive. They would say that anyone can join these groups, but the reason you don't see a "straight white male" group is because no one would join it, while at the same time placing a target on the back of the organizers of the group. Unfortunately, and this is good news for Genesys, they are only one of thousands of other companies that are not willing to stand up to the ridiculousness of identity politics. This is the world we now live in, folks.
