Pros

If you're on a team with good people, it is possible to have a good experience. The key is to find people who truly work towards the values the university espouses and do not get caught up in the politics of leadership. Tuition benefits are great, but beware the hidden cost of taxes.

Cons

Cutting staff benefits is often a cost saving measure, so don't depend on it. It's a "discount" not a "benefit." Promotions and salary raises are completely dependent on who you work for and they pull with administration. HR is incompetent and aids in the nepotism with confusing and opaque policies. Career advancement is a joke within the university, but you can definitely gain experience that will be attractive to other institutions. Leadership is semi-tyrannical causing the rest of the university to jump at every whim. There is claim to a mission, but in reality the mission is to chase prestige.

Unless you want to get a nearly free degree, don't work here.

Pros

Tuition benefit: compensation up to 90%.

Cons

No upward mobility; underpaid; organizational inefficiencies an enormous amount of "red tape". Leadership and management are very poor. There is no concrete mission, vision, or clearly defined set of priorities or goals. Most offices and teams live by the motto of "just getting by", and do only absolute bare-minimum.

Pros

Salaries are more competitive than the other higher education institutions in the area.

Cons

Tuition coverage and benefits are not competitive, de-centralized administrative processes lead to a lot of red tape, mistakes, and difficulty making positive procedural changes. Currently a hiring freeze prevents open positions from being posted for 6 months, so staff is expected to cover other positions without extra compensation. Major budget cuts underway, extremely low raises, and possible future lay offs expected.
