Pros

Good Benefits as Full time employee 8 - 5 work day consistency Able to be a part of a well respected educational institution

Cons

International students and staff (particularly management) made job at times difficult. I suspect my department/school I worked for may be unique to this type of problem though (Engineering School).

Pros

Excellent benefits, working with interesting, committed students and colleagues, very good vacation time, great location, and it is a very large university so there is a lot of opportunity for horizontal professional development.

Cons

The bureaucracy can hamper an individual department's progress and I had the feeling that many decisions were made with an eye to the bottom line and not to student growth and development.

Pros

I've been at GW for over 5 years and have been impressed with how far the University has come even during that short time in enhancing the sense of community, diversity, and flexibility for employees. I think Senior Leadership is doing a better job at listening to their staff and making changes that speak to their commitment to become a "great place to work." And compared to the experience of my spouse, who works in the high tech industry, our benefits are great - the amount of vacation time, tuition benefits, 10% GW contribution to my retirement, etc.

Cons

GW is a large institution with a lot of different areas of expertise, so often it can feel like there is a divide between the different areas of the University (finance vs. student services vs. academics). It's hard sometimes to bridge the divide and feel like we are all working towards the same overall goal.
