Pros

Surrounding areas are pretty to walk around.

Cons

Awful and not updated buildings, elitist culture, white supremacy seeping into workplace, awful pay range even for master level positions. I don’t know how it is in other departments but the GUMC is rife with micro aggressions, power hoarding and high egos, and many of what is considered white supremacist characteristics ARE present! No growth mindset. Employee feedback given to higher management and leadership is considered threatening. Lots of folks who are not effective communicators and have zero skills in introspection and accountability. Stay away from this place if you are BIPOC identifying, intellectually people talk about equity and diversity but they’re not translated into practice which creates an extremely toxic culture. You will most likely end up being told to educate your white or white appearing colleagues for their ignorance. Very quick to placate concerns to silence you but doesn’t really solve the issues brought up.

Pros

You're around staff/faculty that have an abundance of knowledge and experience.

Cons

The pay is low for the amount of hours you work.

Pros

Plenty of opportunities to engage in substantive work. Campus draws administrative professionals who are service-oriented.

Cons

Other universities in the area offer better pay, and more opportunities for growth. No bonuses or established promotional lines for administrative staff. High turnover. During short-staffing, staff who stay are regularly asked to taken on extra duties indefinitely without proportional pay. There are more women and BIPOC people in administrative roles than there are in faculty roles.
