Pros

Good compensation and excellent benefits. Very flexible with working hours. Most of the faculty are great to work with. An excellent job to have while pursuing a part-time education.

Cons

Limited to no possibility for advancement up the ladder; openings are very rare and they go to friends of the boss. University Human Resources is incompetent and imposes nonsensical policies (e.g. insisting that we be hourly and not salaried employees) that serve no one's interest. Some faculty can be very abusive, and you really don't have the power to say no to any faculty requests, no matter how expensive they are.

Pros

Friendly people and small working environment made for a personable atmosphere, not to mention when life stuff happens, they're very accommodating. Plus, being on the campus every day was just an amazing experience. Also: after one year working at the university, you can enroll at the university for a master's program that's fully reimbursed.

Cons

There is a huge bureaucracy at the university. Also, and this is perhaps the most disconcerting thing, full-time employees who are staff (not faculty nor upper-level administration) get treated second-class at times in terms of salary and salary raises. Many of my colleagues took advantage of the tuition reimbursement and then left for a much better paying job after graduating with an MBA or other master's degree. Unless you are a professor, this is likely not a long-term job destination.
