Pros

Overall team atmosphere, diversity, inclusive

Cons

Terrible pay, research equipment is old and often defective. Georgetown University froze all research funds during the pandemic and it went down hill. Expect to get another significant pay cut IF selected for parking on campus (can take years).

Pros

Plenty of opportunities to engage in substantive work. Campus draws administrative professionals who are service-oriented.

Cons

Other universities in the area offer better pay, and more opportunities for growth. No bonuses or established promotional lines for administrative staff. High turnover. During short-staffing, staff who stay are regularly asked to taken on extra duties indefinitely without proportional pay. There are more women and BIPOC people in administrative roles than there are in faculty roles.

Pros

Working in a university setting puts you in touch with many bright, interesting colleagues. The employee benefits are pretty good (health plan choices, dental, vision, retirement plan employer match, tuition assistance for you and your dependents).

Cons

The pay is below market for someone with my level of education and experience. There's a LOT of bureaucracy to navigate in a university of this size.
