Pros

Highest pay in the region.

Cons

Racism. I was told by a faculty on the first day with a narcissist tone: 'Why you are here?' and then I faced a racist situation and when I complained politely I was told that I will not be hired again. Awful experience. Still traumatized.

Pros

(All specific to GUMC) Faculty are very knowledgeable in their fields and are always willing to have a chat! Great benefits especially tuition. A lot of very interesting people work here, and all of the shared resource departments are fantastic. Better pay than competing institutions but still pretty bad for cost of living in DC area.

Cons

(All specific to GUMC) The culture is highly variable between labs and departments. Bad experiences seem to be pretty rare here, but when they’re bad they’re really bad. Broadly, avoid joining any work environment where spouses or relatives work together.

Pros

Nice work atmosphere, good co-workers (at least my fellow hourly employees and staff), flexibility, decent benefits

Cons

low pay, no real pay raises, no career opportunities or ways to advance to a higher position, don't seem to value loyal employees (been working there 10 years(!) and never really have gotten a pay raise besides when they transitioned me from temp to part time), exploitative to the staff (had me working 40 hours as a temp with absolutely no benefits or PTO, will keep slowly adding to your work load without actually compensating you in any way for the extra work)
