Working from home, great balance if you have the right team lead.

Cons

Cliquish organization, you will get support if you are in the right circles, otherwise expect to be on the chopping block. There is sketch decision making. They have a high teacher turnover, they are going through major organizational changes and have even laid off quite a few employees. You will not get a decent salary here, and there will be no time to work another position. You will be expected to work after hours, even though you are not expected to work after hours. If you have a position there, please document all correspondence with students and staff. It helps if fight the scapegoating.

Pros

At GCA, our staff members collaborate and support each other in ways I have never seen anyone else. Our current district leadership listens to teachers and is continually striving to improve the culture at GCA knowing teacher retention is directly correlated to student achievement. You get to do what you love to do all from the comfort of your home!

Cons

This is not necessarily a con but just an expectation at GCA. Teachers are on camera teaching synchronously or in meetings for an average of 6 out of 8 hours of their work day. Our scores have improved with more instructional time provided for students.

Pros

Working from home is awesome. You still get to have positive relationships with students while never having to wait for the bathroom. You are given a computer, printer and an extra monitor, which is a game changer. You are trained on the systems and helped out by a mentor.

Cons

Decisions need to be made further in advance including the school year calendars. There are a lot of changes to previously made decisions but that can also be said about a lot of work environments.
