Will not grant PTO as contracted

Pros

You don’t have to dress the bottom half of your body every day.

Cons

Too many to list here, but I’m here today to complain about RTO (requested time off). In your contract, it states you get 7 sick and 3 personal days paid time off. What they don’t tell you is there are swathes of weeks “blacked out” for RTO. And you can RTO around those but you may still be denied. YOUR PTO DOES NOT ROLLOVER!!!!!!!!!!!! You lose it at GCA from year to year. You can’t bank it for retirement like a normal school. Also, it may be approved in some cases, but if you don’t supply a dr excuse, you will not be paid. Do you go to the doctor every time you’re sick? I sure don’t, but now I have to.

Horrible place to work

Pros

Working from home, retirement matching

Cons

Every year this company piles on the work for teachers. There is not enough time to get everything done 8-5, you will be working after hours or on weekends to stay caught up. You will be micromanaged by a lot of different administrators and expected to write pages of lesson plans. I have taught at many schools and the lesson plan format GCA uses is the most extensive I’ve ever seen. It’s nice to work from home but not when you’re tied to the computer all day and on weekends. This online school is too much like a brick and mortar school, expect you are not paid according to your educational experience or advanced degree. I would not recommend teaching here at all and this will be my last year here. I hope the school board reads all of these reviews from teachers and makes positive changes to improve the school because it’s not just teachers suffering - students are also overwhelmed with the work load and are only given a few minutes between each class.

DON'T DO IT

Pros

Work from home which is great

Cons

Work 15 to 20 hours a day and cant keep up with the workload that's with working 7 days a week. The poor students have more work and tests than any brick and mortar schools. So much that they can't complete their work by the ridiculous deadlines. This school is set up to fail the students and the teachers.
