Pros
After 4 years, I can say that for the most part, with front-end managers constantly coming and going, there is always at least one decent front-end manager who will always like you (as long as you suck up just a little bit). The hours are very flexible and as long you are serious about it, management will usually always let you request off the days you want (although the more you request off, the more they will start disliking you). The customers are sometimes extremely rude but that's something I'm sure all stores deal with. As long as you seem somewhat happy the whole time, even if it is just a ruse, you will succeed. I know that sounds weird but it's true.
Cons
Management is way too strict. Yes, the certain promotions need to be spread to the customers, but I don't need a manager constantly staring at me while I'm working to make sure I say everything perfectly. On rare occasions, especially at night, managers will be much more relaxed, but most of the time managers are constantly overlooking all of the cashiers to make sure they are saying hello, asking for the Giant card, asking if they found everything okay, checking items properly, asking about the current promotion, asking if they want help taking their items to their car, and telling them to have a nice day. One of those things is missed, and management will be all over you. They also want you to bag the items a certain way even though it is faster another way, but the way they tell you helps the stores overall IPM (items per minute) that they observe for each cashier every week. The whole systems is very flawed. Instead of providing good quality service, managers force a structured, number-based work environment.
