Has many holes in its game.

Pros

Large company feel with some large company benefits like small gym, onsite childcare.

Cons

Refusal to listen to employee feedback has hurt this company (low morale, recent layoffs, multiple FDA 483 observations). Vesting options are the "golden handcuffs" to keep people there, since burnout rate is high (Gilead boasts it operates at a 10K employee capacity with half of that employee amount, hence the stressed-out individuals). No transparency with management. Inadequate training provided to employees and in turn the employees are expected to perform at a high level. Internal methods and SOPs are riddled with inconsistencies and errors. Supervisor did not understand the difference between the mediocrity of the current state and the possibility of thinking "out the box". In addition, supervisor was poorly trained, gave little support and based employee assessments subjectively (confirmed via discussion with other employees).

Pros

Good benefits, OK salary. Bright and sociable cowokers who are real friendly and cool. They offer free breakfast and bagels once a month for the employees.

Cons

In my department, management rules with an iron fist. The upper-management staff want to make changes for the sake of change but with no real improvements to increase efficiency or progress our methods. They don't listen to their employees, it's managements way or the highway. They have created a culture of hiring only from outside so there is no opportunities move up or around in the company. There is a huge lack of respect by management for their employees' abilities and time. Morale is extremely low and there are no incentives or rewards for the amount of time the employees put in at work. Terrible work-life balance.

Not for the free-thinking

Pros

Good benefits including shuttle buses.

Cons

If you don't do things "the Gilead way", you have no future with this company. Culture is insular, risk-averse and emotionally defended against innovation despite widespread mediocrity. CEO talks a big game about the need for openness to ideas and approaches "not invented here", but that isn't manifest in day-to-day interactions further down in the organization. New product pipeline isn't great... that may eventually create urgency that leads to change, but it hasn't yet.
