Pros

Depending on the team you work for, you're exposed to some cutting edge work (e.g. copilot) and large scale problems (Databases, infrastructure). There are some genuinely smart people who work here, technical and non-technical.

Cons

As a company that has always been remote first, I thought GitHub would have figured out effective remote work. In some ways, the remote work dysfunction and disengagement here is worse than many other places I have worked at. HR in particular is completely invisible on all things - ranging from setting the tone on culture, to being proactive with supporting employees. No raises ("merit increases") since 2022.

Not worth it with all the politics

Pros

Benefits are decently good, maternity leave is great

Cons

For a company that talks about how inclusive they are, welcome diversity and encourage females to lead and have a voice people sure are judgey around here and like to create issues. God forbid you rub someone the wrong way. Take it from me - you will get pushed out with zero explanation. Guys on the other hand…. do whatever you want and no one will think twice. Things changed for the worse when Microsoft bought us out and you really have to be a specific type of person to get anywhere here and if you’re not, best of luck. Combine all that and the politics that go on internally this is definitely not the company that I signed up for. You have to be a specific type of person to get anywhere in this company, promotions are few to none. Run immediately and don’t waste your time.
