Pros

- A really strong product in the market, sell like hot cakes - Lots of smart, passionate people who genuinely wants to solve problems. A lot of the people still try to practice its values of being open and empathetic - Be part of a company that is at the core of all developer tools - High pay, good benefits

Cons

- Microsoft culture is seeping in even though we were "trained" to say that Microsoft is leaving us as an independent business. Lots of people coming over from Microsoft bring toxic behaviors like not being transparent and requiring heavy operational process / gatekeeping information. Many of them also coast and do not come online or do not have work to show - High revenue growth expectations put a lot of good people under pressure and the fun, collaborative culture of github is long gone; people who feel the pressure are less empathetic and become really pushy to get things done - The layoffs completely changed everything and it's sad to see that we're no longer the company we once were. So many layers of middle management were added in the last 2 years while many front line folks were laid off. Customer-facing services are being outsourced, and customers do not get the same quality of care anymore

Still work to do

Pros

A lot of good people who genuinely care about their work. The perks and compensation were out of this world.

Cons

Any amount of "unlimited vacation" was very hard to take, especially given the growth of the org and general lack of planning. Same goes for holidays. Leadership decisions unclear at best, and shady at worst. Had a hard time understanding why some were let go, and how others had managed to still be there even after not really doing their job.

While we wish you had a different experience at GitHub, we do sincerely appreciate this feedback. Unlimited PTO can be tough to enforce, but we absolutely want everyone to feel like you can take the time you need off. We will continue to build upon our employee performance reviews, and work to make what details we can as transparent to the organization as possible when it comes to management or leadership changes. There is still work to do, and we are genuinely committed to seeing this work through.

Pros

Great benefits, culture and perks. (the best in the industry) One of the best places I got to work for when it comes to their awesome remote policy. Overall, the employees thrive on support, and encouragement to perform your best work everyday.

Cons

There is no little to none leadership when it comes to expectations and goals set company wide. The recruiting team is an absolute mess. No expectations, POLITICS, FAVORITISM, and of course no set goals when it comes to employee growth. No set processes followed or implemented, consistent fire drills and no change.
