Pros

Unlimited PTO (they recommend taking off at least 4 weeks off and remind you often to ensure you are taking breaks) RSUs Learning and career improvement opportunities

Cons

Salary is low compared to other companies Remote isn't really a benefit anymore when so many other companies are doing it already Stock is given based on your location

Pros

Where do I start? - Fully remote - Awesome leadership - Incredible work life balance including flexible schedules and unlimited (actually unlimited) PTO where you don't feel guilty for taking it - Phenomenal benefits including free healthcare, office equipment reimbursement, and cool swag - Competitive and transparent salary (I was offered over my expected salary range) - Amazingly detailed onboarding that is time consuming and at times overwhelming, but absolutely necessary and truly sets you up for success within the company - The nicest, hardest working, and most genuine co-workers I have ever had and supportive managers

Cons

I do think GitLab does a better job in comparison to other companies in bringing in diversity for leadership positions, but they still have work to do though I know they're on it. I would like to see more reinforcement of GitLab values. My fear is that as we continue to grow and scale, there will be team members that don't care to uphold our values and follow our handbook which are important pieces of GitLab and what I feel really sets us apart in terms of a place of employment.

A nightmare

Pros

The product is good Most team members are good people and fun to work with. The salary is up to market standards

Cons

The worst management and executive management I have seen in my life. They make it very clear that "gitlab is not a democracy" and it is in fact fully reliant on how much your direct superiors like you. The sales organization is suffering the most of this. The handbook is useless. No one follows it, and those who do are blamed for doing so. There are no processes for hiring, firing, promoting or even set metrics. Direct managers have full control to do whatever they feel like doing with employees. Performance, quality, effort, and metrics are extremely ambiguous and untraceable, differs from person to person based on the whims of managers and no one can say you reached them aside from the manager's word of mouth. Criticism and objections are unofficially prohibited as long as they are coming from non-managerial employees. The culture is toxically positive. Passive aggression and favouritism is common place. No appreciation whatsoever for employees, and people just disappear daily with no previous notice. I would share more details, but the nda and contract threats and promises of legal retaliation prevents me from doing so.
