Pros

OK pay or benefits in the market. Fully remote. Still is trying to frame itself as a big player.

Cons

Leadership went from being collaborative, communicative, and transparent, to being mercurial, secretive, and out of touch with the actual work. OBSESSSES over your AI usage metrics - even if AI doesn't help you and slows you down. The current layoff in progress was communicated poorly and not planned at all. And now they want us to adore the leaders and the company? Cultish vibes. We went from a company that plans ahead to a company that reacts.

Pros

GitLab's all-remote culture is genuinely best-in-class — async-first, flexible, and not performative. The product is technically strong and the team is full of smart, mission-driven people who take collaboration seriously.

Cons

The Revenue org is in real turmoil right now — quota chaos, and low morale signal a company struggling to find its footing commercially. Leadership instability at the C-suite level has also created strategic whiplash.

A Wonderful Place to Work

Pros

GitLab is a company that embraces remote work, flexible scheduling, and async communication, which has given me the opportunity to balance my work and my home life. Also, the team I work with are incredibly supportive, which really helped for an anxious person like myself. You will get out what you put in here.

Cons

Management can sometimes be a bit unclear with intentions, causing you to do work you should not have done just because they do not have all the information yet.
