Pros

Great co-workers that aren't in executive management Good work lifestyle

Cons

CEO will micromanage the entire company without giving anyone liberty to do the jobs that they are paid to do. If he is unhappy with what he deems as 'his way' you will be called into a video room without notice and let go, he does not even have the audacity to do it in person. Their severance package is horrible, they do not do matching 401Ks, and most of the company is in fear for being fired after all of the marketing layoffs they did without notice last year. They recently hired a new CMO that was let go without notice that came as an absolute shock to the entire company. Surprisingly, even though most of the sales team did not hit quota last year, they have never had layoffs. Those marketing employees that are, however, are let go without notice. CEO has no concept of sales, marketing, or HR and really should just be a developer. He is not fit to be a CEO of a company and has created a sense of terror in the company that all employees are talking about.

Pros

- Servant leadership from management is unparalleled at GitLab. Most high growth startups put product/solution first and the people get left behind - not here! They understand the importance of building the community as well as the product. -GitLab embraces a fully transparent "open source" culture and the values represent this - just check out the handbook online. - Visionary solution that is changing the DevOps market and how companies develop their software. - Remote company provides a great work/life balance!

Cons

- High growth start up - comes with natural growing pains/multiple hats

Pros

GitLab understands the importance of building a healthy company as well as an incredible product and community. One of the challenges with some of the best products out there is they are so focused on the product they are building that they neglect the culture and health of the company. Not so with GitLab. It is balanced, transparent, healthy, and free from office politics. It is run by a CEO who wants to be a CEO, and who puts his energy into continually improving his ability to be an effective CEO. Other pros: - Talented software developers, ux designers, product managers, marketers, people ops, finance, accounting, solutions architects (SEs), customer support, account managers, and sales professionals. No weak links at the company. - The company and product are improved by open source contributors. - Frugal, practical, and operationally mature. Run like an adult company. - People like working with one another, and are genuinely thrilled to see one another during the company summit held once every 9 months. - Flexible remote-only work culture. Everything important has a url, decisions get written down, and everyone works well asynchronously. - GitLab listens to its customers, and ships new features for them on the 22nd of every month. - The product was the highest rated leader in Forrester's CI Wave. - Listens to and values feedback from developers, IT ops practitioners, and IT leaders.

Cons

- There is always a lot of work to do given the company's rapid growth, so life-work balance can be challenging. - Typical startup challenges: lots of competing priorities and everyone needs to wear a lot of hats.
