Pros

I finally found a company that is 100% remote and a company that makes that work really well. I've only been here a couple of months by now and what I've seen so far is wall to wall great. The warmth, helpfulness and openness I've experienced so far is almost unreal. The culture of GitLab which is about Collaboration and Transparency and a lot of other things, is pure magic. Everyone shares and cares. I'd say the pay is really good as well :-) I'd recommend anyone to apply for a job here at GitLab

Cons

As I've said, I've only been here a couple of months and so far I've yet to find anything on the minus side. One thing that is on the plus side that can be pretty overwhelming if you're not used to it though, is the Transparency. That kind of takes you by surprise sometimes and you sometimes feel lost as to knowing how to act and what to do. I guess that "Downside" will evaporate over time as I learn how to do it the GitLab way. It's more me coming from more closed cultures than GitLab actually :)

Pros

Completely async organization. You work when you need to. Results are the only thing that matter. I truly believe is as close as it will get to a meritocratic organization. Focus fridays with no meetings pretty much means its a 4 day work week. I'd say probably closer to 4.5 day work week Unlimited PTO without question. Within my first year I took 2.5 months off and my manager told me to take more.

Cons

If you're not from a developer background or not technical generally you have a super rough time onboarding and getting up to speed. Async work styles benefit some individuals more than others

Pros

Fully remote. Strong (public) values. Articulated around a public handbook: nothing is secret, nothing is hidden. Employees are empowered: being a manager of self.

Cons

You must be confident with being full remote. You must be confident with being empowered: nobody's gonna take you by the hand. Nobody's gonna tell you on a day to day basis what you have to do.
