Pros

Great institute with excellent facilities, faculty and opportunities. They care about their employees.

Cons

It is hard to have a decent life in SF with the postdoc salary. Gladstone pays its postdocs better than most other academic institutes. However it ain't enough to compensate for how expensive SF is.

Pros

The Gladstone community is incredibly inclusive and tight-knit. There's always a ton of incredible talks and all the labs are incredibly collaborative. The building feels like a physical open source project. There were always tons of fun social gatherings and retreats which facilitated even more collaboration. Everyone from facilities, to HR, to PIs, to post-docs is treated equally and the leadership at Gladstone has always been top notch. For such consistently high quality science, Gladstone is a diamond in the rough with how it treats its employees and seeks out the best well rounded human beings.

Cons

Compensation could be a bit higher, but this is mostly an SF/Bay Area issue.

Pros

I joined Gladstone Institutes as a postdoctoral fellow and stayed for a number of years. By default your graduate or postdoctoral experience/progress will be shaped largely by your mentor but the environment and institutional support also plays a tremendous role. I can say that as an institution Gladstone is a very unique place and that I have never visited an academic organization where so mach effort and resources were directed towards the long term success of their trainees. From regular workshops, career-furthering and networking events, to counseling and infrastructural support - postdocs and grad students are being treated like royalty.

Cons

Any cons that I have from my time at Gladstone are related to the PI I worked with or SF as a super expensive city and I honestly can not say anything negative about Gladstone per se.
