Pros

Some intelligent people & possibly a good stepping stone from an upstream operator or service company to a more commercial role.

Cons

Zero benefits, ridiculous KPIs and sadly a race to the bottom in terms of publication quality (eg management push for articles such as ‘Top 10 Capex fields in Europe’, rather than deep and insightful articles). Many of the publications are good though, and the globaldata energy product is first rate. Sadly all areas of the company are underinvested in -bar sales teams who get good benefits- which unfortunately leads to big gaps in product quality due to analysts being spread too thinly.

Pros

If you enjoy wasting time on the internet this job is perfect. I worked as analyst and the workload is so small and there is incentive for do more (managers rarely check work, there is no promotion opportunities and no financial improvements). Analysts usefully take long coffee breaks due to boredom and a lack of work to do. So if you’re happy being bored and getting an average pay check this might be the job for you.

Cons

There is no career development structure in the research/analyst section. Management take 3-5 days off per week regularly. There is additional training and the management do not respond to emails, don’t turn up to meetings. Even if you demonstrate initiative or show enthusiasm it is quickly dismissed or ignored. It’s very much a case of old boys club management as most senior management moved over from Data Monitor. Research reports are regurgitated and management refuse to pay for updated software. All in all, bad research product, worse management. Global data is the Ryanair of research...cheap but poor quality with high staff turnover due to demoralisating management style.

Pros

You get paid, a few of the people are pleasant.

Cons

They water down the soap. The toilets are a state, the floors are wet and you don't want to touch the walls. It was so bad that I would hold off going to the toilet to go somewhere else at lunch or wait until I got home. There is favouritism from management, and they don't like new ideas or improvements. The senior management team may as well not exist, you won't see them let alone engage with them. The CEO walks around with a frown on his face. There is not a proper kitchen, if you want to make a coffee you will need to buy one from the company. All of the furniture is cheap, old, and probably second hand. The turnover is unreal.
