Pros

Editorial is a tight-knit department of caring, amazing people who I was very fortunate to work with.

Cons

If there was an award for being a bad employer, GlobalData would get it every year. The company not only does not care about it's employees, it treats them in ways that feel actively malicious. During my numerous years at the company I was subjected to harassment from management, corporate gaslighting and systematic overworking that saw me slowly absorb the work of 5+ roles. HR even flagged that I was overworked and the company responded by giving me more responsibilities. Everything is critically under-resourced, and senior management regularly chastise their staff for failing to reach impossible standards while refusing to replace departed staff or even pay for basic, low-cost tools and equipment that would make workloads more manageable. The communication at the company is also systematically dreadful. Finding information out about developments that impact your job - or even in some cases actual expectations of your role - requires an informal network of fact finding from colleagues and contacts because the official information channels are so weak and poorly structured. Pay, meanwhile, is some of the worst in the industry, and gets worse the longer you stay because the company does not offer yearly salary increases. Instead, getting a payrise generally requires a job offer from another company - which if you are very lucky the company might begrudgingly match - or a multi-year campaign. And then you will have to wait months to actually get it because of the under-resourced HR department and the fact that every single expense or salary change - no matter how tiny - has to be signed off by the CEO himself. At the moment editorial is going through changes, as the company puts more pressure on it to use its own data in editorial pieces. Which would be fine, except that the quality of the data is extremely poor and is often factually inaccurate (probably because the poor teams that put it together are also underpaid, overworked and poorly managed). This is a company built and running on hot air. I've been forced to read - and cover - many of the reports it produces. I wouldn't pay £20 for them, let alone the thousands they are sold to private customers for.

GlobalData Response
5y
I'm sorry to hear you had a negative experience working at GlobalData. We take accusations of misconduct extremely seriously and would never force anyone to take on more work than they were comfortable with. We encourage regular one-to-one meetings with your line manager to ensure that our employees have the support they need to effectively do their job. We have solid HR procedures in place should any issues need to be escalated. It is unfortunate that you have such a negative outlook of the company and I am surprised to see that you stayed with us for 8 years if this is the case.

Pros

- You can meet very nice and supportive people as colleagues. - Work/life balance is ok. - Decent first job but keep applying for other roles.

Cons

- Zero corporate culture. - Zero transparency. You won't be informed even about what is this project for. - No benefits. You will ask for the promotion a hundred times and will be promised, but nobody cares in reality. - No career growth. Don't expect even annual review. - Bad management. No planning, very unprofessional and bossy. - Dirty office and kitchen in the basement. Very basic. - EXPIRED snacks/food like 3 times per year. It will be left in the kitchen area just because it's expired and unwanted by the top managers. - Everything you will work on should make sense only for one person. Your opinion as a specialist in your area doesn't play any role. - Data and numbers are changed on the go sometimes... just to look better and bigger. - Lack of communication with management. - Very oldschool, no innovations here.

Pros

Salary and nothing else i can think of.

Cons

- Owner is a businessman, loves to buy and sell companies. One day you'll be in this company and another the next day. - Trying too hard to streamline products into their so called "branding" - CEO only cares about profit & revenues, nothing about the ground staffs. - Very messy structure from top management to below. - Unqualified mid managements whom doesn't know how to manage people. - Progression? Forget it unless you're a boot-licker. (FACT) - Trying to be global but very well disorganized. Too many silos. - Products aren't that great. - Trying to be at the forefront but no where near it. - Unrealistic targets and forecast.
