Pros

Decent Pay for the industry, but it cost so much to live in NY it cancels it out. When I have a manager they seem to care (but about every 3 months or so there is always changes in positions or people quit) On the floor MT and PT really do seem to care about the work situation, even if they are handcuffed at almost every turn. I met some really "cool" people who i know consider friends. For the compressed work week people I enjoy the time off, but once again compressed is a industry standard.

Cons

Management is "clueless" they are focused on what they can see "people walking on grass" not what is going on within the fab. The reports are a "joke." They are so powerful but worthless to what makes a fab profitable. Focus is always on the wrong thing, Got talked to about ports being out of A-3 but quals can sit in front of metro tools for days. As for quals the inside joke (for managers who never go inside or qual a tool) we are the "worlds greatest test wafer fab", but even though all quals that are setup are requested we continuosly get told we are over budget. SPC charts are almost laughable, as there is always excuses why charts are so unrealistic, main villian is the mystery "customer." The MFG group completely is in charge of a startup, we have no customers right now, so why are they even in the mix?

Pros

- Some very good engineers - Strong ambitions (but when are just ambitions enough?)

Cons

- Bad execution - Gross misunderstanding of engineer's capabilities - which results in capable engineers ending up with wrong managers/projects - Top-level management doesn't seem to have a clue - Mid-level managers dont have good people skills
