Negative Overall

Pros

Salaries are somewhat higher than local competitors depending upon the position.

Cons

No unity among peer groups and international partner organizations lack collaboration skills; top down authoritarian style management says one thing then does another. Very poor leadership and no execution on corporate strategy/vision. Too many "yes men" are placed around department managers as a buffer for territorial protection. Dissenting opinions are treated as problematic employees who are not "good team players" and data driven decisions are non-existent. Layoffs are routine and the default methodology for problem solving. The highest skilled and most productive leave for other companies while the deadbeats stay and collect their corporate welfare. People are bullied into obedience and non-conformers are shown the door. If you're a new college graduate, don't work here. You will not learn anything or build an effective foundation for future career development.

Band-Aids

Pros

Great benefits, good pay. Cafeteria is nice and facilities are well maintained. Good sense of teamwork and camaraderie among coworkers on same band level.

Cons

Low level employees are overworked due to departments being understaffed and the terrible attrition rate. Hostile work environment where the focus is to place blame instead of working together to solve the problems. Mid and upper level management show no respect or appreciation for workers so there is little morale. The thought of coming into work each day gave me nightmares.

Pros

The only thing this place has to offer is working on the latest manufacturing equipment, when you get the chance to actually work that is.

Cons

Management - None of the 3 managers I had in 3 years were technical managers. Not one had a clue what the equipment was doing or how the equipment fit into the manufacturing of microchips. Compensation - There are a couple issues here. First, they are paying people with 1-3 years experience the same as they are paying 15-20 year veterans. This is bad because the veterans feel under paid for their skill and the newer technicians are stuck here because other companies do not hire people with thier experience at the wage they are making. Second, the bonuses were not what they promised when I took the position, they were paid out late, and were very small. HR - Everything you read on glassdoor about the human resource department is absolutely true. I honestly can not add anything because it has all been said here. Horrible group of people. Location - Malta/Saratoga Springs has nothing to offer. The people who own and rent property in the area have taken advantage of GF employees by raising rental prices to phenomenal prices......everything is expensive including the "suppossed" nice cafe at GF. During the winter you can look forward to subzero temperatures for several months, extreme amounts of snow, power outages, and snow plows. During the summer the area fills up with tourists coming to the race track, this is when businesses hike thier prices even higher. It becomes over crowded. Besides the people really aren't all that friendly in the area anyway, if you weren't born and raised there, they want you to spend your money and leave, no one has any interest is getting to know you. I lost interest in living there after the first year and just had to wait out my relocation contract and finding another job.
