Pros

The torture comes with a smile.

Cons

The place is for sale, layoffs and buyouts are rampant but the HR dept is still posting fake reviews on GD. Stick a fork in GF because it's done. The investors have had enough and the place is being run by millenials with no experience let alone any sort of drive for success. The ratio of management to actual employees is lopsided so you have 10 bosses telling you to do 10 different things. Plus, the majority of managers have zero experience in high-tech. That's right, you can have 30 years experience across multiple fabs and your "boss" just came from up the road at the Target warehouse where their biggest problem was keeping forklift drivers from racing. GF is a soul crushing place to work. If you need experience in how not to run a business then i highly recommend it.

Pros

If you like 3 and 4 day weekends, that's the only pro that I can come up with. Which by the way these are much needed after having to deal with the incredible amount of ridiculousness during your short work week leaving you to wonder "Where is the hidden camera?"

Prospective Employees be Warned: In my experience, the job descriptions provided by this company are completely misleading and inaccurate. If you decide to still pursue this company after reading this and other reviews, my only advice is ASK AS MANY QUESTIONS AS POSSIBLE. Make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. I unfortunately, did not. Per my personal situation, GF refused to acknowledge my 7 plus years, post Graduation, Engineering experience and essentially told me that as far as they were concerned, I start at 0 years experience in the company's eyes. I held an engineering title for every employer post college except for GF. This was partially my fault for accepting a Senior Technician position at GF, however this goes back to my initial comments regarding how GF provides extremely misleading job descriptions. I was treated as though I held a high school degree. I was encouraged by one manager to make efforts to go above and beyond in an effort to climb the ladder; followed by another manager telling me to stick to my daily tasks. Every time I brought up the idea of transitioning to an Engineering role, I was given the run-around and countless excuses. I hold an Engineering degree from a prestigious and well-known university, however technicalities (The name of my major) according to GF claimed that I did NOT have an engineering degree and refused to acknowledge it as such. Although it was claimed to have been; there was zero effort made to investigate and verify my engineering course work. Rather, my name was seemingly thrown into a pile of ineligible candidates for Engineering roles at the Company. What a slap in the face! 5 years of College with the student loans to show for it and this company treated me like I've never opened a book. I stuck around for two years as a result of being handcuffed per my relocation agreement (if you can avoid this, do it!). Finally, after securing a new job and literally two years of essentially being told I was too much of a layman to hold an Engineering position; following putting in my two weeks notice, I was ALL OF A SUDDEN competent and offered an Engineering position out of thin air! What a coincidence! I know of at least a couple incidents where employees (higher-ups / engineers / managers) were literally involved in a physical altercation on-site and when brought to the attention of a superior, the situation was "swept under the rug". Real good example you're setting there. All-star work environment! I wonder what would have happened if this occurred between two peasant technicians.... All this comes after the company supposedly "improved" their company ethics and behaviors, prior to my hire. The cafeteria often recycles food and uses for the next day. There has got to be some health code violations here, right? What do I know though, I was just a Senior technician, I don't know how to form my own thoughts and conclusions o_O. Oh and as far as their imaculat pay. My single raise over the two year period there was for 5 cents! They really know how to take care of their employees ;)))) This place is a joke. Looks great on the surface but by the time you realize what this company is really about, it's too late you are already employed. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE.

Pros

If you are looking for a place to flex your muscle resolving problems, you'll be very happy here and build your strengths every day. The work-life balance is probably better than the industry average. We start the day late compared to everyone else in the semiconductor business. You get plenty of sick time and vacation time, management doesn't actively manage it, so you can take off almost anytime you want with no repercussions. Diverse work force, many different cultures and lots of interactions with people from all over the world. Very qualified engineers with a variety of scientific backgrounds and expertise. Many new engineers with freshly printed degrees and lots of optimism. Leading edge technology with high-end customers and huge demand for wafer output. We are VERY busy at Fab8.

Cons

Unqualified managers all over the place. Multiple process modules promoting their favorite maintenance techs to manager (or a kid with 12 months experience), with no real training nor managerial educational prerequisite fulfillment. Module shift managers are consistently unqualified throughout the building, most are either angry techs who were about to quit or shift "engineers" who see the fastest route to 6 figures is to take the shift manager job. Mid-level managers, many also unqualified and first-time leaders, also have no idea how to lead technical teams or engineers. PMTS and SMTS, leaders of engineering, are sidelined to purely individual contributor rolls, often working for (managed by) an unqualified, uneducated person and the results are high turn over, poor performance, a culture of no accountability and discontent. The modules themselves work as individual silos, as they do in any dysfunctional manufacturing site. The lines are clearly drawn between ops, engineering, maintenance and support organizations and grenades get thrown by all sides. Micro management is the rule of the day in this environment of tactical mayhem, which ensues every morning around 8AM until 5PM. While engineers spend all their time making reports and filling out forms for support organizations, the opportunities to be strategic fall to the weigh-side as panic and incompetence destroys productivity and the people who know the correct direction are either ignored or have given up all hope and say nothing. Meanwhile, as we breath in the poisoned air shooting out the exhaust stacks, because a multitude of abatement systems remain broken, in bypass or shut down, the news continues to be all positive about the greatness of Fab8. I'd call the EPA but they wouldn't care and we all know it. This is either due to corruption, an incredible level of ignorance and/or the worst case of sycophantic leadership in history (as a recent employee "goodbye" email suggests). One thing for sure, bringing in a management team stuck in the 1970's from Fishkill is only making it worse. A few months ago, all of the company values and mission statement posters were removed from all of the conference rooms and hallways. I guess we can give management credit for do that, at least the lies are no longer hanging in your face every day anymore.
