Pros

Nice facility, engineers get to work with brand new equipment. Great networking opportunities since most of the employees move on to much better companies and hopefully they can pass on a good word. Good area to live and raise a family.

Cons

There are three kinds of people that work at global. 1) People that hate their job and are looking for other jobs 2) People that hate their job but need to fulfill their 2 year contract and 3) People that hate their job but have moved up in the company to far with too many benefits to start over at another company. That in a nut shell describes the culture of the company. Its such a poisonous place to work I don't think it can be repaired. Work life balance is horrible! The techs hate their job because they opinions are not respected and they have turned into chemical bottle changers, and the engineers hate their job because they never have time between all the meetings to actually engineer anything.

Pros

Pay is on par with SUCCESSFUL Semiconductor Manufacturers. Office areas are very nice (new). Laptops and PC's work great, network is rarely, if ever, down.

Cons

All of this pertains solely to the Malta location. Zero leadership. Not really sure who is in charge here. It appears that most of management has been hired from unsuccessful companies and they have managed to bring all of their propencity to fail with them. Seriously, it seems as if we have all of AMD's and IBM's unwanted fodder running the show here. And boy are they quick to pat themselves on the back even though we are doing next to nothing. A great majority of the engineering staff are recent college graduates with little to no experience. This place has, hands-down, the absolute worst gown-room design ever developed. The person that designed the sandwich-glove step should be fired immediately...dumbest design ever. Ridiculous fab cleanroom suits with built-in hoods. Don't bend over, ever, or you will get a rude surprise wedgie. All of the operations software is recycled garbage from IBM, nothing that will make your life any easier. Seriously, it's terrible when compared to what is available on the open market and from larger comapanies like Intel and Samsung. While the CEO just claimed some bogus safety award, employees have quit due to lack of safety within the fab. The main complaint is that the people calling it safe have zero or near-zero industry experience. But don't ever try to tell them they are wrong or it's the door you will see. No house breathing air... That means you'll need to order several air bottles to do any PM activities on contaminated chambers. Management wants everything polished and pretty for customer inspections yet we have all office stanchion markers printed on copy paper and glue-sticked to the wall. I feel like I work in an elementary school classroom. All of the riggers and construction crew are union workers so don't expect anything done with any modicum of expedience. Even though we have a new parking lot, it is already over-capacity. Get here early (5:30am) if you want a decent spot. The cafe is severely overpriced. A simple lunch should never cost between $12-$15 dollars. Ridiculous. Regardless of weather conditions the fab experiences a power-bump nearly once a week. Everybody with a solid technical background is quitting as soon as their relocation committment is fulfilled (which is two full years). The rules change every day to fit the desired outcome. Nothing is predictable here. It literally feels like I'm working for an amateur factory. Nowhere near on par Management-wise with the big boys (TSMC, Samsung, Intel). I have no faith with our current management, regardless of how good they continue to tell us they are...

Pros

Loved this company before. The company is willing to give opportunities and offers for new graduate college students. Good for new if you live in local upstate NY.

Cons

I worked in Fab8 for over four years, in my opinion, all the HRs and some of the managers are very bad. 1. Raise is too low, raise not judge based on your performance but manager prefer. If you need a sponsor for work or are not a U.S citizen, they will raise you for hundred dollars a year, as a level 6 engineer in the company over 4 years average rating by my manager, my raise is a few hundred dollars a year for 0.8 to 0.9% raise because your managers know that you can't go anywhere unless you find another job. 2. HRs are bad not only to treat Technicians like garbage but also for the Asians who need sponsors. Do not talk to your HRBP for anything, because they will immediately feedback to your managers and never listen to you. I see a lot of techs get retaliation by their manager because they do the skip level talk to HRBP or senior managers. HRs and most senior managers don't care about anything. The only thing they care about is cost. They don't want to hire any experienced masters or Ph.Ds for new technology development such as the Si Photonics but in public tell people how much they invest in the projects. 3. Senior Managers have no vision and plans. Every one to two quarters requires each manager to provide a bottom performer and give them a performance improvement plan and force people to leave. Everything is under the table without letting any employees be aware, does not like other companies do it way with standard measurements or at least every employees aware it if they don't perform they will leave. Bad consequence, the manager can kick out anyone if he does not like you. Senior managers sneak around and fire people until huge attrition this year. Try to keep people but don't willing to raise or do anything. Just hiring more new graduates or transfer things to India, however, even the new graduates or people who work in India have better offers than GF provides. A lot of groups lack techs or engineers to work, some people have to do double of the previous works and spend more time to training a new hire and after one year, when new hire can talk, they will find a better job and leave. People who work here go to an infinite loop that never going to have back up and never have really experts who can lead things. 4. For people who need a sponsor, if you get the visa you should immediately leave the company. HRs do not care about the visa hold employees at all. You never going to find the HRs to help you, even a simple thing like update the visa status. I tried to contact HR to help me just update my visa status in our system, and no one reply to you, from June to August, entire two months, used all the communication way, email, hangout, team, no reply to you and all the HRs work from home but we have to work on-site. System email every week notices me I will not get pay if don't update my status, but you just can't find a single one that can help. Recently police are no hiring for any person who needs a sponsor even all the Asians in this fab do double of the jobs than average. 5. Some of the managers are really bad that screw up people's life and work and they just get a better job they want and go to a better place with high salary but left other people's no job. A lot of people leave in my previous group is because of the manager's retaliation and toxic working environment. I was worked at night shift for 16 hours over two weeks from 3 PM to the next day at 7 AM and my previous manager still force me to join the 8 AM meeting to report fabouts number just because other managers and people who work on days cannot wake earlier to join the meeting. Turnout I went to the hospital the next day due to the liver get the issue and still call me threatening me and telling me that I would receive a PIP. Try to move the people to other groups and tell employees how bad you are on their job. The truth is just because the company and high-level leader require to follow work smart and lay off people. Overall the company culture is changed and Fab8 GF does not decide to be a high-tech manufacturing company but just a manufacturing company. with only new hire techs. A lot of experienced people left but leave new here don't even know what they are doing. Most of the techs and engineers are really dedicated to their work but do not equally treat by the company. Senior managers as usual just talk about the good side of things and hiding the truth. People who still work in the company just because they have families or other issues have to stay.
