Pros
First and foremost, I can say that Goldberg Segalla is unlike any firm I've ever worked at. They hire good people - not just good attorneys so you, SHOCKINGLY, enjoy coming into work. They are ultra selective during the interview process which creates a structure with very limited turnover. HR has real teeth so toxic personalities are weeded out... those are the type of people that post negative reviews here because their bad behavior was tolerated (if not encouraged) at their old firm so accountability comes as a harsh reality.
Some pros that really set GS apart from other firms:
- Leadership really makes it a point to invest in its young attorneys for the long run. What you bill is not the SOLE criterion as to your status at the firm. This is not a "mill" with insane turnover as plagues other firms. Associates are viewed as colleagues and not billing minions.
- The firm regularly wins Best Workplace Awards for a reason: jeans everyday, Spirit Week, breakfast Fridays, competitive Halloween contests, ping pong tournaments, bake sales, All-Attorneys retreat... it's a different type of law firm experience. A happy work force is of utmost importance.
- Praise is not hard to come by. If you do a great job on something - it's recognized and shared throughout the firm. Plain and simple. No one is trying to hold you down for some unknown bureaucratic reason. Leadership identifies partners not based on tenure but on excellence so you're never told to "wait in line".
- No hard face time policy means employees are legitimately happy to come into work because they do not feel forced to be there.
- The firm is fully integrated. You work with attorneys in different offices and across multiple practice groups. If you meet someone you like, you can work with them. You're not stuck in a small group forced to work on the same narrow set of cases. This structure eliminates the silo experience.
- Truly feels like a career move. Not just another job / stepping stone on the resume.
Cons
Not a CON per se but if you're someone that traditionally doesn't work well with others you're going to have to adapt quickly. Toxic/cancerous personalities simply do not exist. There are repercussions for bringing down the office vibe. It seems like some of the negative reviewers here likely fall into this personality type. In that regard, being a super biller or a mega rainmaker will never give you a hall pass to mistreat others. Leadership vets at the door and if one squeaks through, they are identified quickly and held accountable.
