Pros

The people are talented. It attracts the best talented. Co-workers were very dedicated. It is also a money machine. Compared to pretty much any other large organization, Goldman is the best run with the best talent. It looks great on your resume even if you only stay for a short while, and even if you get out of finance.

Cons

The hours. They can wear you down. Also all the market turmoil on the street the past few years. I faced a lot of travel too, much of which was needless in my opinion. The pace can be a bit much depending on your work group.

Pros

Goldman Sachs has a good reputation. I was in Technology, and liked the fact that I was able to pick up some finance knowledge too. Also, from what I have heard, they consider sponsoring your MBA. You can get good experience in the area of interacting with users, gathering requirements, etc.

Cons

I did not like my co-workers. Many of them were stuck up and not helpful. Goldman Sachs does not believe in documentation, which sucks big time for a newcomer. When I tried to write some documentation, I was discouraged and was told that unit tests themselves are documentation (I have no idea how). Quality of technical work is not good.

Pros

Everyone was very helpful when working on projects. When I was given a difficult task, I found it easy to reach out to others in the office for assistance and guidance. I soon learned who to go for to solve specific problems.

Cons

There is a difference in urgency in the office between the Salt Lake and New York offices. In Salt Lake, a project will get done eventually, but not as quickly as it would in New York.
