Pros

decent pay, $1.50 above minimum wage.

Cons

HORRIBLE allergy breakouts. Skin rashes and puffy eyes/runny nose. If you are allergic to pet dander or must this is not the place for you. Very painful repetitive work. A lot of standing. Quotas to reach or you will be written up. Breaks are paid but you cant leave the building. You have to fend for yourself with everything. Get your own clothes. Tote your own clothes to the compactor. And fight with other employees for supplies like hangers and tagging guns which some people stash. Which makes it very hard to reach your quota in a realistic time frame. You have to have your bag checked EVERY TIME you leave the building. If no one responds to the page and comes to the front, you could have up to 10 minutes knocked off your lunch and nothing you can do about it.

Pros

Finding an employer that would actually hire a person with a physical disability. I think the benefits were pretty darn good, but unable to compare them to other industries. Employees and supervisor were supportive in every way from training to work conditions. Friendly atmosphere. In hindsight after seeing what is out there now for a similar position the pay was excellent.

Cons

The job demanded someone had to be there 24/7 and 365 days a year. So on occasion you had to work graveyard that is tough. And had to be there despite how bad the weather was when a normal business could close down. Dealing with snow is tough for the disabled. Unfortunately as the economy declined there were cutbacks to staff and work became busier and if anyone was out sick there was no backup as before. Worst of all the two bases became a joint base the army took over support operations and eliminated our entire department.
