Satisfied - good first job

Pros

I started at Goodwin Procter in an entry-level position. I received great training and have gained useful knowledge. Comparable positions at other firms often end up being full of mundane paper pushing, but I've definitely received substantive work and responsibilities at Goodwin. Good culture. The people here are great. Partners and associates do not look down on support staff.

Cons

Poor work life balance, as with most big law firms. Management has limited ability to help maintain reasonable workload for employees. First year associates seem to have poor/no training.

Pros

Goodwin Procter has very good medical benefits - in fact, I don't believe I've ever had a better medical plan. The support departments are good - finance and records are outstanding. Onsite office services are adequate.

Cons

I noticed quite a bit of in-fighting among staff. The management tends to look the other way until there is a blow up. The management does have favorite attorneys and staff members. Perception is that if you are not a favorite, you have no protection.

Good firm but lacks transparency

Pros

Competitive salary, top quality attorneys

Cons

Lacks transparency regarding its financial well-being. Multiple office closures done "under the radar" with limited communication to employees and staff. Makes you wonder about the financial security of the firm.
