Pros

There is an Entrepreneurial spirit throughout the firm. That culture rewards those who proactively seek solutions to problems. The people are smart and motivated to achieve the client’s needs. They do plenty of pro bono work, if that is of interest.

Cons

Big Law Life and all that that entails. Professional Staff salaries are below market value across the board. No matter your contribution, as staff, you will be rewarded signifigantly less than attorneys.

Pros

Goodwin Procter has a great work environment with terrific, hard-working people in its ranks. HR and management make a sincere effort to reach out for input from staff, and paths to career advancement are clearly laid out and attainable to those willing to make the effort to meet concrete goals. There is real potential for career growth and skill-building, with excellent training and support for employees, and it is a great place for those whom can be a team player.

Interesting work, great lawyers, but litigation is a bit of a sinking ship.

Pros

Challenging work, great colleagues. Good benefits, including 18 weeks maternity leave. Supportive of pro bono work, and may extend the 150 hour limit in certain circumstances.

Cons

No different from any other big law firm - you'll be staffed on large cases with 20+ attorneys and won't have much partner contact. They are also a bit secretive when it comes to layoffs - more than 10 associates were laid off as part of the annual review process in late 2014 prior to the larger layoff in April 2015. It was really 30+ litigation associates who were laid off in the last year.
