Bad Morale and Terrible Leadership

Pros

Plenty of opportunities to move around and change jobs which keeps it interesting. The new building is pretty. Pay is very high. Cafeteria has great options.

Cons

If you’re not being directly yelled at or threatened, your manager is, which means in turn they will take it out on you. The insane pressure of the communicated growth plan up against the harsh realities of the market and internal costs are felt throughout the organization. Instead of being inspired by leaders to stay positive and focused, they just bully and don’t want to hear excuses. Honesty is not rewarded and problems are never discussed openly. I’ve never seen messages managed so politically, especially around the manufacturing world.

Pros

There is a lot of interesting and challenging work here, and some fun people too. With the right group you can learn a lot and get some cool things accomplished.

Cons

There are many, many poor leaders of others. The company doesn't seem to value people or hold leaders accountable for good leadership behaviors. The focus is extremely short-term. Also, the IT systems are lacking.

Years of Experience - Multiple Departments and Roles

Pros

Beautiful Corporate Headquarters with great amenities - on-site cafeteria, workout facilities, high-tech meeting space, attached parking garage, etc. Globally-recognized brand Overcompensation for the industry and local market Fun people - if you're on the right team Community Involvement (though driven by the opportunity for good press) Opportunities to get involved in Employee Resource Groups and other activities/groups

Cons

Location - not much near the headquarters building Tenure holds more weight than performance, and "working hard" is more important than delivering results. Departments are constantly reorganizing and letting go the best performers and managers instead of those who do not contribute. Innovation driven by those best performers constantly stops in its tracks, making others hesitant to try and initiate change for fear of being the next out. No work/life balance. Some executives still walk the floor in the early morning and evening hours to see who is there and not - and hold it against people. Overcomplicated, non-scalable processes make all tasks tedious and drain the energy out of associates. Expressing a new idea is viewed as challenging leadership rather than as positive, innovative thinking. Career opportunities are limited to those who are in the "in crowd": Those tagged as high potential, the "yes men", and those who are "nice guys who have been around a long time" are given promotions and new roles. The system is manipulated so that new roles aren't offered to all associates. Women are not valued as much as men. Women in leadership roles aren't given as much responsibility or respect from Senior Leadership.
