Pros

Great logistics in terms of moving product fast to the customer. Great product offering. Nice people in the lower ranks. Profit sharing (although not like it used to be)

Cons

Don't make it easy for employees like to me leave the company. All over the board on sales strategies. It's flavor of the month. Don't get used to selling one way, it will change soon. Unethical pricing structure. Charges more than retail on many of the items. Upper management clueless. Tons of money wasted at company events. SalesForce ruining the good salespeople. You will lose the best ones in the next 12 months. Being forced to enter when you pee into SalesForce is a little extreme. Moving functions to Panama. What were you thinking? Call one of those people and feel the pain the customers do!!!

Pros

A year ago I would have completely filed this box and left the 'Cons' box virtually empty. But now all I can come up with are competitive health insurance options and nice employee purchase discount.

Cons

Grainger has recently returned to their unrealistic sales goal setting practices and at the same time created a complicated commission formula making it difficult for sales staff to understand how they are compensated. The employee's profit sharing contribution has been cut in half, no longer compensating for subpar sales salaries. Multiple simultaneous program launches (SalesForce, SMS, etc) have left us with little time to actually spend with customers. Launching so many programs at once also makes it difficult to narrow down what is working and what isn't. We somehow have higher costs than our competition, making it difficult to gain new business from competitors who's pricing is often lower than our cost.

Pros

Many opportunities where you are able to diversify your career. Generous paid vacation time.Good work life balance. Able to work with a flexible schedule.

Cons

We compete against our own subsidiary; Zoro. The prices are half of that at Grainger. Company says that they are a different target audience, however our customers often point out the difference. Sales goals are unrealistic for most Account Managers. Less than half meet their goal annually. Grainger's pricing is very high vs our competition. They ask us to stress our value, but our main competitors provide the same service.
