Shame on you Grainger

Pros

Awesome benefits and compensation. Great product and fantastic distribution capabilities. Service solutions are bar none the best in the industry.

Cons

Grainger used to be "the place to work". Based on what I've heard, they are on a huge minority hiring spree internally and externally. Candidates are selected based on race and leadership is being stacked with minority leaders? Promotions and hires are no longer based on the quality of the applicant vs. some sort of racial quota? I'm curious to know if the EEOC or labor groups or a recent lawsuit have driven this action? It's a shame that this is the new Grainger. The leadership should be ashamed of itself and stop the nonsense!

Hard work and Dedication mean nothing to a big company

Pros

Great Benefits: pay and profit sharing. Progressive company that utilizes video and teleconferencing to avoid unnecessary business travel.

Cons

Cut throat environment, especially in a Lake Forest. Continually cutting staff of top performers while lower performers remain due to political reasons. Company is large and the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Business direction is always in flux.

An eh experience

Pros

It's a solid company. The benefits are great. The profit-sharing plan is phenomenal. The company pays tuition reimbursement. There were a lot of incentives: company events/meals and merchandise. There was a gym on the premises.

Cons

The office wasn't as diverse as it could be. Not really enough flexibility for a middle-level manager. Middle and upper management was very disappointing. My salary was disgusting. I took an extremely severe pay cut. I had an incompetent manager, which made my job unbearable. She had a "my way or the highway" attitude. Do what she says. Don't think. Don't ask any questions. That's not a good fit for my personality and creativeness. And you can't move to another position or location without the blessing and support of your current manager. So, I was screwed.
