What's so Grand?

Pros

It's located in The Domain. The clientele is typically affluent. Everyone gets along well with each other. If you ask a host to not seat you for just a moment, or give them any attitude about them double/triple/not-seating you then you get fired, which is pretty cool and ensures that the hosts are treated respectfully.

Cons

I really expected to be treated better and not like a number. During training, there was a lot that nobody could agree on. ie, the "landmarks" regarding position points, and a couple others. A server having to tip-out to other employees to make up for the company not paying their workers enough is complete garbage, but, in the service industry, us and our opinions don't matter. Hiring 80+ servers for the size of the restaurant....Really..?

Pros

It's good "casual upscale" experience for a server. The money is better than at most chain restaurants. Also, because of the broad menu, this is a good place to learn more about food.

Cons

Weekend and holidays there can be BRUTAL, as it's extremely busy. On one hand, this is good because that means more money. On the other hand, this sometimes means working a 12-14 hour shift without much of a break. And doing that for several days in a row. It's not uncommon for nearly all of the service staff to be scheduled for a double shift on a weekend, which often means little to no relief between shifts. During the holidays, 50-60 hour weeks for servers are not uncommon. Prepare to be cranky and exhausted. The real worst thing about this place though is the clientele. You'll wait on some great tables here who spend big, treat you nicely and tip generously... but you'll also wait on a lot of creeps. The people who eat here are a weird mix of upper and lower class. At Grand Lux, I've gotten some of the best tips I've ever gotten in several years of waiting tables... and I've also gotten stiffed more than ever (the good tips often make up for that, but it's still frustrating sometimes).

Pros

The management team is respectful and make me feel like I belong. There is no discrimination and the management try to create a family environment. Freddy inspires me to grow with the company and work on my attitude every day. Doug is a good man and everyone is always helpful, especially the cooks even on hectic nights. Love some of the staff.

Cons

Unfortunately there are very few (although attitudes are contagious) so I won't say I am innocent. Yet I am a good person, the guests love me and within 5 months I already have regulars. There are just people at the job who if they don't like you, they will push until they get the worst out of you.
