They have an awful health coverage plan--they pretty much force you into an HSA (health-savings account), where you are encouraged not to get medical help when you need it. Their safety policy has managers doing everything to keep you from getting medical help after an accident because it goes onto their accident statistics if you do see a doctor. There is terrible communication from management as to what is happening in the company, which creates an air of stress as rumors tend to fill in the information gap. There is a "good old boy" atmosphere: if you are a white male with whom your white male manager would like to share a beer, you'll do fine in the company. This is no employee diversity, ethnically and socially speaking. All other employees are left out of the information/career growth/salary loop. The highest management talks about caring about the people but is extremely detached from the common workers--there are company-wide conference calls that supposedly provide a forum for all branches nationwide to communicate with management and with each other, but woe to anyone who actually speaks the truth! Being present and on-time does not matter--it seems that those employees with irregular presence are the ones who are promoted. Managers are either absent or spend much of their day talking about irrelevant topics with their friends in the office--as long as you're a "good old boy", it's okay. New employees arrive and often are not announced; likewise, employees disappear and that disappearance may not be announced to all. Important information is shared more with managers and "good old boys" while information may be withheld from other staffers. Employees can look forward to only a 3% COLA (cost-of-living adjustment) each summer and occasionally a 2% merit raise (if the employee has been assertively asking for it)--but high national inflation has no impact upon employee raises.
