Pros

There are several benefits to working at Granite. The free gyms are great, the heath benefits are decent, the access to the Redline is very nice and there are some very friendly people. By the time I left I had worked my way through several departments and was on a team I really enjoyed. The CEO, I’m surprised about the negative reviews I’ve seen about Rob here. I had worked for him for a long time and have always found him to be an excellent leader. Although the company wide “if you don’t like it you can leave” comment did in fact occur it is the only blip in what was otherwise a great experience in regards to him. Charity, not only are there weekly charity events but Rob and a few other people at the company started a shaving by saving event that donates millions of dollars to cancer research each year by donating 5grand per shaved head.

Cons

Ultimately I did end up leaving Granite about 2 months ago and there were several things that lead to this choice. -Parking, no way to sugar coat it. It’s bad. Not much they can really do about this but be aware that if you arrive near 8 you are parking about a 10 minute walk away from the building. -Pay and raises. Pay is across the board on the low end of the spectrum. There are no raises at Granite, period. I’ve never even heard of exceptions to this rule. The only way to get paid more is to get a promotion which requires a whole set of hoops to jump through and can still just never happen. Also if you hit the ceiling for your job class you can only go supervisor when someone else leaves. This is ultimately what made me leave Granite. There was no more room for growth in my position and no incentive for me to take on more responsibilities with no way of being reimbursed for those added contributions. -Some management. The last team and supervisor I worked under were amazing. The work was engaging and I had the support I need to get my job done... and three other people’s jobs done. That being said I had also been on some teams that the management was so toxic and micromanaging that I literally developed an ulcer, and I mean literally. Don’t get an ulcer kids, they are not fun.
