Pros

Granite is very philanthropical. Rob Hale takes it very seriously, and you can tell it's earnest. The annual Saving by Shaving event is the biggest example, but every week a new charity is chosen, submitted by the employees. Lots of opportunities to volunteer. You can really make a difference for someone in need. Last year, Granite switched from ad hoc raises to annual ones, so you don't need to wonder when you'll get an increase (depending on performance). Attire is very business casual, which is nice. It's nice seeing people be able to express themselves in an office setting. Granite really pushes for growth from within. It depends on department, but so long as you are doing a good job/occasionally going above and beyond, you will have an opportunity to grow. You get what you put in, like most other companies. Every Monday there is a companywide meeting to cover important updates, new hires, promotions. It's a nice way to acknowledge employees, and Rob personally runs a good chunk of it, which is nice to see a CEO take the time to do. The new office is nice, has a good cafeteria and a really nice gym. The people are great and a there are a lot of fun events, like a game night, and the ERGs host a lot too. PTO and benefits are good (BCBS, PTO is accrued). And you can pay out or roll over up to a certain amount at EOY.

Cons

Only one day remote work allowed, which might turn some people off. Opportunities for additional flexibility are allowed, but the default is one day. Management issues. A lot of managers are not built to be leaders. This issue varies, and depends on department. It's an issue that stemmed from an outdated process of raises really only coming from promotions. Meaning a lot of people who are not supervisor material became one since it was their only opportunity at earning more. There needs to be stricter guidelines and better training for managers, as a lot of the issues are directly related to poor management, and not the company itself. Some departments are not good at communicating with others, but this is not an issue that's unique to Granite. Not all holidays are acknowledged, since many of Granite's customers are retail/open those days. There will be contests for days off around these holidays, which are a double edged sword. It's nice earning a long weekend for less popular holidays. But there are definitely times where it feels a little condescending, depending on the holiday (I.E . Christmas Eve/New Years Eve. Neither day is a guarantee, and there is only a contest for one of the two days, so it changes each year). The goals themselves are dependent on a few select groups, so the company as a whole doesn't have control or a way of contributing to getting that day off. And the results aren't usually given until the day before, which makes planning PTO/travel more of a headache than it already is sometimes.

Great Opportunities to Grow

Pros

Granite offers a lot of opportunities for growth and to change verticals. You have to put in the work but it is definitely possible. I started at Granite in one group and have jumped around to 3-4 different departments and now I really enjoy what I do. I remember interviewing at other large tech companies that made it very clear they wanted you to stay within your particular vertical because that is where they needed you. It really opened my eyes as to what differentiates Granite from others. I also enjoy the Monday Morning Meetings when Granite's CEO gets up and gives us regular updates on what is going on with the company and gives shout outs for promotions / new hires. Overall, it seems like a lot of effort has been made in the last few years to turn it into a more positive team environment.

Cons

I wish there was more WFH flexibility or more flexible hours but seeing as how so many companies are getting rid of WFH completely - I am happy Granite is still offering 1 day a week. I do wish the health benefits were better.
