Pros

Working at Great Lakes Cheese has provided me a lot of beneficial work experience. I have learned so much about the industry in the 3 months I have spent here. The work atmosphere is great, and I am always working on a different project.

Cons

Trying to think of a con is honestly difficult. I would say the only negative thing about working at the Hiram facility is the location, although downtown Cleveland is not too far.

Pros

The open door policy is critical and really makes folks feel comfortable knowing they can go to their plant manager with any concerns. When the management team is in town, they do a great job making their way around to say hello to the employees they may not always see. The ESOP is second to non. The family-feel environment is something not all companies have.

Cons

The hours can be long. Around the holidays, production workers could work 7 days a week. Sometimes plant employees will spend more time with their co-workers than they do families. Also, because we are growing (which is a huge pro), the stress levels are high trying to meet customer orders and expectations. Sometimes it can be very overwhelming.

Not what they first appear to be

Pros

-If you are desperate for a job then look no further because the revolving door is always open. -They do offer a basic benefits package. - They do offer a retirement plan.

Cons

- Strict zero tolerance attendance policy that if strictly followed will eventually have the average employee eligible for termination after a few years. - Management will fight to maintain the current way things are done so they can continue their lazy management style. - They expect you to give the rest of your working life to them at comparatively low wages for a cheese plant so that you can potentially have a chance at a large retirement payout.
