Business Outlook
Pros
Almost everyone in production and engineering are very sharp, focused, and hardworking. The company has a lot of capital in the form of worker knowledge and skills, well written procedures, and decades of hard won data on their products.
Cons
Most ICs are doing three jobs: trying to produce a product, trying to produce "results" for management, and doing whatever their manager should be doing. Low-level managers are typically in meetings all day (often double booked), so do not have time to address IC concerns, leaving the ICs to do management tasks like negotiating with other departments or holding each other accountable. Most ICs find three jobs overwhelming, but some are able to cope by doing those jobs very poorly.
