Pros

As a community manager I am given a lot of autonomy in making decisions and running my property my way. My boss doesn't hover but is always available to guide (no give answers), ensuring that I learn and grow. Every market is different. Philadelphia is a booming market with incredible growth. Soon there will be more positions then bodies to fill the seats. The conferences and training events are top notch, the go all out. Very good work life balance, and managers are flexible. Compared to AvalonBay, the environment was significantly better.

Cons

Working for Greystar you really need to be a self starter. I almost didn't make it in my initial months because I felt like I was on an island on my own. The company is growing rapidly and you really need to be able to figure things out and function as much as possible. As busy as you are, your regional is 4 times as busy. But hang on and there is incredible opportunity.

Pros

Leasing is a great job if you want sales with a good hourly. Greystar started me off at a wonderful hourly wage and also paid commissions on each lease and renewal. My regional manager in Charlotte was amazing, there is a lot of growth opportunity, and the apartment industry is only growing.

Cons

They didn't train me very well for my position. When I went to another company I realized how little I was taught about the leasing world.

Pros

My overall experience working with the company was excellent. The office environment was harmonic and everyone meshed pretty well together. This was one of the more fulfilling jobs I've had. Work hours are 9am to 6pm with a full hour for lunch which is great. Scheduling was pretty simple also because we were all generally flexible and communicated well, and requesting leave was easy. There were hardly any complications, unless there were conflicting leave requests between myself, my coworker, or assistant manager...but that was pie to work out though. There is plenty of training and opportunity for growth. Greystar really cares about their employees and wants to see you succeed as much as you do. They are the largest property management company in the nation and for good reason. If you're thinking about starting a career in property management or even if you're already in the industry, but would like to transition to a better company, I would definitely recommend applying here. Last tid bit: It's an office job, but you're not stuck in front of the computer all day. You also interact with others frequently and get to move around. Win - win IMO.

Cons

The following paragraphs speak more to the nature of the business than the company itself: The starting pay rate was pretty low considering my college degree which they attributed to my lack of experience in the industry, but I knew that I was more than qualified for the job taking into account my cumulative work experience, so I negotiated a starting rate of about $4 higher than what they initially offered. Work/life balance I rate a 4 out of 5 mainly because you have to work weekends, during snow days if you live on the property, and on many holidays that your family likely has off. But in order to maximize sales, you have to capitalize on the days prospects could actually have time to come in and tour the property. So that's just the nature of the beast. Some days seemed more difficult than others especially when budgets weren't being met/exceeded. Attitudes weren't as chipper and you could feel the stress in the atmosphere. Then that's when the micromanaging begins. However, that is to be expected when you have any role in the sales department of the company. You drive their profit! The prospects and residents are very interesting. Whether you're at a property that attracts high class prospects or one that attracts mid- to low-, you're going to deal with a lovely variety of attitude, sense of entitlement, neediness, helplessness, etc. This is a customer service focused position, so this is to be expected. But keep in mind that you will be serving the very same people for at least six months to a year depending on if they renew.
